Dunstane House was built in 1852 to the design of the famous architect William Playfair, who also designed the nearby Donaldsons' College for the Deaf. Originally Dunstane Villa, as it was first named, was the private residence of the Ross family, famous for their Edinburgh Castle Rock and other confectionery produced in Scotland. The bandstand in Princes Street gardens takes its name from the family. Our Edinburgh Hotel retains its Victorian architectural grandeur which, combined with an intimate country house atmosphere, ensures our guests leave with lasting memories of Dunstane. Crow step gables, archers' windows and ornate open fireplaces give Dunstane the atmosphere of a small castle.
