London Budget Hotel Guide

There is something for everything in London, one of the world’s greatest cities. There are the wonderful Houses of Parliament on the banks of the River Thames at Westminster. There is St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London with its museum and Roman remains. There is also the architecture of today at Canary Wharf and elsewhere.
London has a large number of excellent museums and art galleries. The British Museum holds comprehensive collections from cultures around the world. The Royal Naval Museum at Greenwich is also well worth visiting. The National Gallery, the Courtauld Collection, the Tate Gallery and many other galleries offer collections of every form of visual art, ancient and modern. And then there are the many other attractions such as the Tower of London and Madame Tussaud’s. Entertainment and Arts centres such as Covent Garden and the South Bank complex also offer a great deal to the tourist.
The city probably has more parks and green spaces than any other capital city. Hyde Park, Regents Park and London Zoo, St James’ Park, Hampstead Heath and Battersea Park are just a few of the many. In addition, there are pleasant walks along the embankment and opportunities to take boat trips along the river.
London has numerous restaurants, including a very high number of ethnic restaurants. Food from around the world is on offer and the standard is high. Many restaurants are highly priced and featured in the top guides, but others offer excellent eating at low prices. In addition, the shopping has something for everyone whether in the boutiques of Chelsea and the King’s Road or the antiquarian bookshops of Charing Cross Road.
During the course of each year there are exhibitions at Earls Court, the Trooping of the Colour at Buckingham Palace, the Notting Hill Carnival and numerous other events. And one cannot forget the 2012 Olympic Games, for which the capital is already preparing.
Of course there is always a wealth of historical interest in London. For some there is the literary interest surrounding such writers as Shakespeare, Dickens and the later Bloomsbury set. For others it may be the fascination of Victorian London and the trail of Jack the Ripper. Everywhere are reminders of the past – the palaces, the churches and much more.
London’s nightlife has plenty to offer from the opera at Covent Garden, concerts at the various concert halls to the clubs and bars of Soho. There are always numerous shows running in central London and lots of theatre too, including plays at the reconstructed Globe Theatre.
So, whoever you are and wherever you come from, London has something to offer you. There are plenty of hotels too, with a wide range of prices.
